CCMGA Educational Workshops
Our workshops provide practical, research-based gardening education for North Texas homeowners, whether you’re just starting or seeking to expand your gardening skills. Taught by certified Master Gardeners and subject experts, each session focuses on timely topics—like propagation, vegetable gardening, water-wise practices, or seasonal care—designed to help you succeed in your landscape. Workshops are hosted throughout the year at Myers Park in McKinney and other locations across Collin County.

Tomato Workshop

Whether you’re growing tomatoes for the first time or looking to improve your harvest, this Tomato Workshop offers practical, research-based guidance for successfully growing tomatoes in Collin County and across North Texas.
The program includes educational presentations led by local gardening experts, along with interactive demonstration tables hosted by Collin County Master Gardeners. Attendees will have opportunities throughout the workshop to observe demonstrations, review displays, and ask questions.
What You’ll Learn
- Tomato varieties suited for North Texas conditions
- Determinate vs. indeterminate tomatoes and how growth habits affect care
- Common tomato diseases and blight, and how to reduce problems in the garden
- Seed basics, including saving and storing seed and understanding seed preparation
- Gardening fundamentals presented through educational tables and displays, such as:
- Earth-Kind® gardening practices
- Irrigation basics
- Healthy soil and compost
- Understanding seed preparation
- Pollinators and the benefits of bees

- Educational presentations and demonstrations
- Guidance from experienced Master Gardeners
- Research-based gardening practices grounded in Earth-Kind® principles
- Light refreshments and handouts included with registration
This workshop is designed for all experience levels, from first-time gardeners to seasoned growers looking to refine their tomato-growing practices.
Advance registration and ticket purchase are required. Attendance is limited.

If you are unable to attend, please email events@ccmgatx.org, and we can notify our wait list participants that there is availability.
Dress for the venue and the weather—layers are a good idea. The Landing can be chilly in the mornings, so a light jacket is recommended. The Pole Barn is an open-air, covered space—wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes.
