WORKING WITH HUGS

Collin County Master Gardeners are pleased to assist in the horticultural training of special needs adults at Hugs Greenhouse in McKinney. Master Gardeners work along beside Hugs Team Members and share knowledge.  The mission of Hugs Greenhouse is to enhance the lives of adults with special needs through training and employment.  To Hugs volunteers, this is more than just a statement, it is in everything they do to create an inviting place of training and employment. Their goal is to empower adults with special needs to change their lives for the better by creating jobs and providing extensive training every day. 

Master Gardeners work with Hugs Team Members to prepare pots and propagate plant cuttings. We also help with other Hugs projects. Master Gardeners enjoy spending quality time with Hugs!

HISTORY

Collin County Master Gardeners began talking with Hugs Greenhouse staff in April of 2018 to see how we could partner with them to mentor Hugs Team Members.  In August of 2018, Master Gardeners began volunteering to work alongside Hugs Team Members in the Hugs Greenhouse.  This effort grew and Collin County Master Gardeners began providing additional support. In November of 2019, the CCMGA Executive Board approved for Hugs Greenhouse as an official project of the Collin County Master Gardeners Association.
