The Allen Public Library Courtyard Research & Demonstration Gardens project for 2017 is well underway. The Gardens, which began in October 2015, are a collaboration between the Collin County Master Gardeners Association, Keep Allen Beautiful, Puckett’s Nursery and the City of Allen Water Conservation Department. The gardens are a great addition to the Allen Library Courtyard. Puckett's Nursery in Allen donated all the plants for the gardens and Texas Pure donated the mulch. All continue their support for this project.
We have had many positive comments from visitors at the Library Research & Demonstration Gardens. They are looking forward to having beautiful flowers, plants and color in the garden.
The winter months and various critters have not been kind to the annual plants and some of the perennials. We are planning a date in April when with a good size group of Master Gardeners will install the spring annuals, evaluate the perennials and replenish the mulch.
This project continues to demonstrate Earth-Kind® Landscaping with plants that provide maximum garden and landscape enjoyment while protecting the environment. Earth-Kind combines the best of organic and traditional gardening and landscaping principals to create a horticultural system based on real world effectiveness and environmental responsibility.
